Fly Fishing For Trout, Patagonia Chile/Argentina Title

Fly Fishing tours in Chile and Argentina,
North Central Patagonia
Season: December through March (Patagonia's summer)

Once your itinerary is set, Patago has your unique experience in mind. We'll give you the help -- or space -- you need, every step of the way. Whatever your passion, whatever your style, it's possible with Patago.

Navigating the Andean Continental Divide for perfect trout waters, Patago will provide you with the very best fishing available. Our fly-fishing trips are unique in that we follow, explore and fish for wild rainbows and browns in an incredible river system that extends from the headwaters in Los Alerces National Park in Argentina to the Pacific Ocean in Chile.

In Chile experience the nearby lakes, creeks, ponds and remote sections of the Rio Futaleufu, including two outstanding Chilean fisheries, the Rio Palena and the Rio Yelcho. One of our most popular itineraries extends the fishing from Chile to include some outstanding fishing locations near Esquel, Argentina. These locations include: Los Alerces National Park, Rio Grande, Arroyo Pescado, or at one of our many secret locations.

Our guides are expert anglers and hosts, and will make sure you've got everything you need for a successful day. Patago fishing parties are limited to a maximum of four to six rods per week. This ensures the privacy and tranquility that Patago believes is best. Eleven-day itineraries are common (Thursday - Sunday) this allows for travel days and six full days fishing and seven nights in Patagonia.

Some of our secrets:

How we fish: Our most productive fishing is done with streamers 65 % of the time or attracter dry flies 35 %. We float most days and will walk-wade where appropriate.

How we travel: We travel by van, 4-wheel drive-double cabin pick-ups, float fishing rafts, and by foot or if you prefer by horseback.

Our top flies: Sparkle Olive Bugger, Dave's Hopper and Chernobyl Ant.

Our average fish: 16 inch, 1-1/2 pound rainbow. We catch 60 % rainbow and 40 % browns with an occasional brookie in the mix.

Our largest freshwater fish: 18 pound brown.

Catch & Release: On a good day with an angler possessing good luck or skill. You can expect to catch and release 12-18 fish a day.

Our accommodations: Cavi, our Angler's Cabin in Chile and Trevelin Lodge in Argentina. We float each day returning to one of the accommodations in the evening. If you wish, we can arrange an overnight camping float-fishing trip.
